Increased Workloads Lead to Decreased Productivity

According to a recent survey conducted by Express Employment Professionals, one of the nation’s largest privately-held staffing companies, 68 percent of company leaders report increased workloads this year. But with additional tasks at hand, lack of organization and poor time management are at the forefront.


“As businesses are rebuilding their workforces, additional work is piling up and it’s affecting company leaders,” said Bend/Redmond franchise owner Connie Druliner. “Besides causing leaders to get overwhelmed, problems with organization and time management can lead to lost time, decreased productivity, diminished morale, reduced profitability and a frustrated, reactive workforce.”


Express surveyed nearly 19,000 current and former clients across the United States and Canada. Survey results indicate that more than half (55 percent) of employers do not provide training to new leaders about how to manage increased workloads. And yet, 83 percent of company leaders report problems due to disorganization and poor time management. In fact, more than half of leaders lose up to nine work hours each week due to desk or office clutter. The overall biggest drain on time for leaders is “constant interruptions,” according to the survey.


“While some employers may feel that organization and time management skills are small issues for their employees, they fail to recognize the bigger picture of how this is affecting their bottom line,” Druliner said. “When faced with increased workloads and decreased productivity, flexible staffing and contract staffing solutions can help business leaders stay focused on growing and maintaining their business.”


Disorganization costs a business over $11,000 a year for someone with a $50,000 salary.
