Deschutes County Narrows County Administrator Candidates to Two

The Deschutes County Board of County Commissioners has narrowed down the list of county administrator candidates for further consideration: Walter Munchheimer and Mike Segrest.

 

Walter Munchheimer: Director of Financial Management, Palm Beach County, FL; Deputy County Manager, Fulton County, GA; Assistant County Administrator, Escambia County, FL.

 

Michael Segrest: Senior Consultant, Ralph Andersen and Associates; Town Manager, Moraga, CA; Town Manager, Town of Snowmass Village, CO.

 

Seven candidates were in town last week and participated in a thorough interview process. The process included multiple interviews, various assessments, and a reception open to the public. The Board has directed staff to move forward with reference and background checks. No timetable has been established in hiring the County Administrator.

 

The County Administrator is appointed by and serves at the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners.

Neither of the two finalists are currently employed as a city/county administrator. Segrest's last administrator position was in Moraga in 2009. He worked there for a year and left in 2010. Munchheimer hasn't been employed since 2008 when he left Palm Beach County. Both have since applied and have been rejected muliple times.

One has to ask, why no finalist who has worked in city/county government in Oregon?

This decision destroys the belief that Oregon politicians are any smarter than the Moraga, CA officials that hired Mr Segrest. He over promised and under performed while receiving the highest compensation package in the Town's history.

I certainly hope that the County investigates the background
of Mr. Segrest! A simple few keystrokes on the internet will
show what happened to Mr. Segrest in Snowmass and Moraga Ca!
