Attending a symphony is a magical experience for a child, and the Central Oregon Symphony wants to provide this experience to all children – for free at Virginia Rigg’s Children’s Concert, Thursday, May 17 at the Bend High School Auditorium.

The “musical zoo” begins at 6pm, the concert beings at 7pm. Share the fun and the joy of symphonic music with the young people in your life at this informative, fun and interactive concert. Conducted by Michael Gesme, “the funniest maestro in town,” this event is designed to introduce children to the instruments and sounds of the orchestra and the wonders of classical music.

The concert will include performances by the symphony’s Young Artist Winners, ages 11 and 17. A special hands-on, instrument “petting zoo,” will be held before the concert in the auditorium lobby, where children can talk to the musicians and touch real instruments.

The event is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and tickets are required. You can download your free e-ticket at www.cosymphony.com. This concert is recommended for children five years and older, and all ages are welcome. The concert is approximately one hour, shorter in length than a traditional symphony. Children are welcome to move freely during the performance.

Concert length approximately 1 hour.

The Central Oregon Symphony is unique – its musicians are not paid, and they devote countless volunteer hours to the task of creating a magical, full season of classical concerts for all members of the community to enjoy. This combined with unique partnerships in the community and a generous donor base; they are able to provide unreserved tickets at no cost, making this substantial art form available to everybody in the community. From modest beginnings in 1967, the orchestra has grown to become a major player in the local fine arts scene. Last year, over 8,000 individuals, children and families enjoyed symphony concerts. www.cosymphony.com.
