Proceeds benefit The Hunger Coalition of Central Oregon, goal of $50,000 set

In its 30th year, Newport Avenue Market will host the Rude Rudy’s Finale Golf Tournament, a charitable golf tournament and benefit dinner to support the Central Oregon Hunger Prevention Coalition. The event will be held at Awbrey Glen Golf Club on Wednesday, July 25; tee time is at 1pm and the benefit dinner will be held at 7:30pm. The fundraising goal for this year’s event is $50,000.

The event is expected to bring together more than 150 community members and influential leaders in the grocery and retail business. The tournament kicks off with a shotgun start and participants play their own ball to win. The benefit dinner will be held following the tournament and will feature an award ceremony, BBQ, and Rudy will present The Hunger Coalition with the honorary donation of proceeds raised from the event.

The golf tournament began 30 years ago as an appreciation event for Newport’s vendors. In 2007, Owners Rudy and Debbie Dory decided to convert the event into an annual fundraiser to support local charities. Rude Rudy’s Golf Tournament has become well known in the community as a fun event for an important cause, having raised over $151,000 since 2007. This will be the final year Rudy will host the golf tournament.

Presenting sponsors of the tournament include Newport Avenue Market, Awbrey Glen Golf Club, Budweiser, Kraft / Nabisco, Kellogg, Pepsi, Unified Grocers, Smith Barney, Eberhard’s Dairy, and many other local companies.

“This event has been one of our proudest and biggest giving endeavors for many years,” said Rudy Dory, owner of Newport Avenue Market. “Hunger should not be par for the course and that is why we are dedicated to hosting this annual tournament and event. Supporting the hungry in our community, especially during the economic recovery is essential, as our supporting sponsors and participants believe as well.”
