“This early campaign success is thanks to the wonderful generosity of individuals, workplace campaign donors and corporate gifts,” states John Salzer, the 2012 Volunteer Campaign Chair.

United Way of Deschutes County report that the $600,000 mark has been surpassed and the organization is well on the way to reaching the $1.25 million goal set for the 2012/13 campaign..

To promote the 2012/13 United Way fundraising campaign, Salzer has vowed to wear a LIVE UNITED t-shirt every day until the goal of $1.25 Million is reached.  Salzer then went one step further to bring visibility to his cause; his t-shirt is covered with big black numbers that announce weekly updated campaign pledge amounts.  “This is a great conversation starter,” says Salzer with a smile.

In the summer of 2012, thanks to the many supporters of United Way of Deschutes County, the organization was able to implement a funding plan for the year that is investing nearly $1 Million back into the community to help fund essential services provided by local non-profit agencies. In 2011, these agencies assisted over 74,000 Deschutes County residents of all ages and needing a wide range of services.

Nearly half of all funds raised by United Way of Deschutes County come from donors who participate in Workplace Campaigns. Workplaces of all sizes take this opportunity to come together as a united community. Through brief presentations by United Way and partner agency representatives, participants learn more about this local organization that works to help fund much needed programs in Deschutes County. The investment of time is minimal, but the reward can be huge.

It doesn’t take a great deal, to make a great deal of difference.  From diapers to health screening supplies, from afterschool homework help to basics like food and shelter – when one gift is united with that of others, the result can be life changing.
