City Club Forum Presents: The Nurturing of an Olympian

0

The Olympic Games inspire awe around the world – and Bend and Central Oregon are no exception. In fact, Ashton Eaton’s gold medals put a spotlight on our region. Bend and the surrounding communities boast more than their fair share of Olympic athletes — 30 at last count — and is home to many talented individuals who train, support and care for Olympians, and who have worked behind the scenes to produce Olympic Games. Join City Club December 20 to explore the Olympic Games in a way only your City Club can.

You’ll hear from expert panelists and Olympic athletes to explore questions like: What does it take to coach an Olympian? How do Olympic Games impact our young athletes? What does our Olympic-ness bring to the region? What was the personal impact of the Games for our local Olympians?

Moderated by Bob Grim, former NFL player and radio broadcaster.

PANELISTS:

  • Christy McLeod, formerly with the International Olympic Committee
  • Ben Husaby, Nordic Skier, two-time Olympian
  • Tate Metcalf, former Mountain View High School Track Coach, coached Ashton Eaton
  • Nils Erickson, director of MBSEF’s alpine program (a training ground for past present and future Olympians)
  • Dr. Tom Carlsen, orthopedist for US Olympic teams

Additionally, Roz Eaton, Ashton Eaton’s mother, and a number of local Olympians will be in the audience.
