The Gala at The Riverhouse, produced by the Central Oregon Visitors Association and The Riverhouse, announced Green  will be the inspirational guest speaker January 21. Proceeds from this event will benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon.

Green attended and graduated from Oregon State University. During college, Green was a third-team All-American as a senior and the 1984 PAC-10 Player of the Year. He led the Oregon State Beavers to the NCAA tournament three times. After college, Green spent 16 seasons in the NBA, and won three championships with the Los Angeles Lakers spanning three decades (in 1987, 1988, and 2000).

Green is known as the NBA’s Iron Man, having played in 1,192 straight games. Outside of basketball, Green’s heart is dedicated to working with youth. Because of his love for young people, he established the A.C. Green Youth Foundation in 1989. Through his “I’ve Got the Power” and “Game Plan” curriculum, videos, leadership camps, and web site, Green’s mission is to help young people build self-esteem and character, and learn moral and ethical principles which will help them make responsible decisions.

Celebrating its 21st year, The Gala at The Riverhouse has raised over $1.75 million for local beneficiaries such as Grandma’s House, Sparrow Clubs, KIDS Center, Family Resource Center, Ronald McDonald House, Every Kid Fund, Deschutes Children’s Foundation, Tower Theater, Cascade Youth and Family Center, Habitat For Humanity, Volunteers in Medicine and Heart of Oregon Corp. Proceeds from the 21th Annual Gala will benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon.

Boys and Girls Clubs open the door to possibilities for local youth. For 18 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon has been transforming young people’s lives and enriching our community. The Clubs offer a variety of high impact, affordable programs that enable at-risk youth to mature into productive, caring, and responsible adults. The Clubs are a place where youth discover talents, develop skills, and build confidence while having fun and making friends. They create great futures by encouraging kids to do well in school, give back to their communities, and choose healthy lifestyles. At four locations in Deschutes County 1,452 boys and girls ages 5-18 experience the magic of what is happening inside. It takes just one person to make the difference in the life of a child.

The Gala at The Riverhouse has been a solid fundraising event in the community for the past 21 years. The Central Oregon Visitors Association in partnership with The Riverhouse produces the entire event from preliminary beneficiary selection, through donation procurement, ticket sales, and volunteer support for the evening of the event. The Riverhouse also completely donates all the food and beverage, facility, and labor for the night of the event; thereby ensuring that 100% of ticket sales directly benefit the selected charity. The Gala remains one of the most successful charity events in Central Oregon and continues to help local non-profits in a meaningful way year after year.

The Gala evening will include an elegant five course meal, one-of-a-kind silent auction and special guest appearance and presentation by A.C. Green. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.riverhouse.com/gala or contact Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon at 541.617.2877.
