Economic Development of Central Oregon PUB TALK

Start your New Year right with entrepreneurial fun on January 24. Presenting company is Kialoa Paddles.  Early stage presenters are Signalfy, Waggletops and Fido Love.

Presenting Stand up for Kialoa Paddles

Started on Oahu in 1991, KIALOA Paddles grew out of Dave Chun’s love for outrigger canoe racing. Driven by the desire to build the best paddles in the world, Dave started crafting wood paddles on his parents’ lanai. Shortly thereafter, he met Midwestern transplant Meg, and it was a marriage of west and east, island heritage and mainland progressiveness.

In 1992 the Chuns moved the company to Bend, bringing the Aloha spirit with them. Against all odds, they started an outrigger club in the High Desert. Nowadays KIALOA makes a full line of stand up, outrigger and dragon boat paddles. You can still find Dave and Meg paddling on the Deschutes River near the shop, together on the water.

Hear FoundersPad entrepreneur Kara Dake talk about how her startup, Signalfy, creates a platform for electronic dance music, the fastest growing mainstream music genre in the U.S. The new discovery platform launches in beta format in Portland this February.

Beth Larsen has turned her attention to a common product that has sorely needed an update: pet beds. Waggletops are snuggly “fitted sheets” for dog and cat beds, designed to be pulled off and washed in a jiffy. No more wrestling with covers and throwing away old beds!

After an extensive corporate career in real estate, Reese Mercer is now focused on animal advocacy.

Fido Love is an online meeting place that helps pet lovers find a new home for your dog, or find a great new dog for your home.
