City to Break Ground on Largest Infrastructure Project in its History

The City of Bend will kick off the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Secondary Expansion Project, representing the largest infrastructure investment by the City of Bend since the original treatment facility was constructed in 1981.

The City provides wastewater collection and treatment to support a healthy environment, thriving neighborhoods and a growing commercial and industrial sector. The project is scheduled to be complete by fall 2015 and will initially expand the plant capacity from 6 million gallons per day (mgd) to 8.5 mgd, with additional capacity to 11.9 mgd easily provided through additional treatment and mechanical facilities.

This $43 million project is funded, in part, by a $38.8 million in Oregon DEQ Cleanwater State Revolving Fund low interest loan. The project includes use of high efficiency turbo blowers, expansion of the hot water loop for building heating using digester gas, and eliminates risks associated with gaseous chlorine storage, maintenance and transport with construction of the new effluent UV disinfection facility.
