New Bend Ponderosa Park Skatepark Project to Break Ground

0

The community is invited to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new skatepark and skatepath project at Ponderosa Park on Thursday, September 12 at 5:30pm. The event will be located in the park’s southeast corner at 15th and Wilson and hosted by Bend Park & Recreation District and project partner, PUSH (Providing Urban Skate Habitats).

The project is a result of the collaborative efforts of PUSH and Bend Park & Recreation District. Featuring an approximately 8,000 square foot main park and 4,000 square foot skatepath, the project’s total construction costs are estimated at $360,000. BPRD has budgeted $320,000 for construction and an additional $18,500 for planning. PUSH has contributed the remaining $40,000 for construction through cash and in-kind donations through a community fundraising effort. The group’s contributions allowed for additional skatepark features and amenities.

Anticipated to be open to the public in November, the skatepark will offer street and transition features including:

• Half-pipe section
• Multiple quarter pipe sections
• Two sets of stairs
• A variety of wedges, hips and ledges
• Grind rails
• Radius wave and pump bumps

The final design was based on public input, site opportunities and constraints and budget.
