Expanding the Brews at Phat Matt’s Brewing Co. In Redmond

0

Phat Matt’s Brewing Co. opened its doors in Redmond in September 2011 and created quite a buzz around town with their groundbreaking selections. The inaugural deep chestnut IPA, Golden Ale and rich auburn Red Ale are the first creations of mastermind, Matt Mulder, founder of the brewery.

Recently, Phat Matt’s has expanded to produce more selections such as the Porter Ale, Pacific Northwest IPA, Koslch Ale and a new White IPA, which just took bronze medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championships for an Experimental Brew. This award winning White IPA, 4.7 ABV and 60 IBU’s are what happens to a traditional Belgian Wit when it is hopped up like the Pacific Northwest. The combination of Pilsner malt, red wheat, oats and un-malted wheat give it a creamy body. It’s then topped off with Magnum, Galena and Ahtanum Hops giving it a hint of lemon and orange notes to make this Ale, Phat like the days of summer.

Phat Matt’s is expanding by brewing a number of well-known brews from California and Washington in their warehouse. Many Northwest brewers don’t have the equipment for large batches, contracting out their brews to be made in other facilities. This is actually the same way Phat Matt’s Brew Co. started before they purchased their own equipment.

Redmond, much like Bend, has great water for brewing beer, which keeps these breweries thirsty for more.  The canning process has been a positive direction for many breweries around the nation and Central Oregon and is the next step for Phat Matts Brewing Co. Cans are cheaper to produce, easier to recycle, lighter to ship, and some even say it tastes better in a can because it can get colder.

For now, Phat Matt’s will only can the White IPA and the local favorite, the Red Ale.

Phat Matt’s brews can be found in stores such as Fred Meyer, Walmart and now Safeway in Oregon. They are also available at BevMo and Total Wine and More, throughout California and Washington.  Keep your eye out for this distinctive Redmond product.
