FORCE Lab Hosts Discussion & Demonstration of Movement Analysis Technology

0

The new biomechanics laboratory led by Oregon State University – Cascades and private partners will host its first public presentation on Thursday, November 14.

The presentation, “3D Movement Analysis & Injury Risk Screening in Athletes” will explore the technology used in the lab and how the data gathered can assist in the prevention of injuries in athletes.

The Functional Orthopedic Research Center of Excellence, known as the FORCE Lab, is led by researchers at OSU-Cascades, in partnership with Therapeutic Associates-Bend Physical Therapy, The Center Orthopedic & Neurological Care & Research and The Center Foundation.  It opened in May 2013.

The FORCE Lab utilizes a suite of sophisticated equipment, including an eight-camera motion analysis system, two “force plates,” a treadmill with a metabolic cart, ultrasound equipment, and video cameras to capture human movement.

During the presentation a panel of presenters, led by lab director Christine Pollard, will provide an overview of common injuries in athletes and explain how research underway at the lab can capture and measure human motion. Pollard is the director of the FORCE Lab and leads the exercise and sports science program at OSU-Cascades.

Pollard will be joined by James Nelson, a physician in physiatry sports and occupational medicine at The Center; Chuck Brockman, the director of physical therapy at Therapeutic Associates, Inc., Bend Physical Therapy;  and the assistant director of the FORCE lab, Andy Hayes.

The presentation is free and starts at 6:00 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m.  The FORCE Lab is located within The Center at Therapeutic Associates at 2200 NE Neff Rd, #202 in Bend.
