Black Butte Ranch is getting its Christmas wish a little early, with approval of a massive $11.5 million makeover to expand the lodge’s pool area, fitness center, parking and a new bistro café.

The vote by 1,250 eligible homeowners was cast on Monday and passed according to Scott Huntsman, CEO and president of Black Butte Ranch.  Designs and plans for this improvement project started nearly three years ago, and when completed, will include a swimming pool and sauna 80 percent larger than the existing one, fitness center and locker rooms, a bistro eatery with al fresco dining and poolside service, a recreation barn with play area and improved parking facilities.

Construction is set due begin on the project’s Phase One in September, with a targeted completion date of June 2015.  The architect selected for the project is THA Architecture of Portland, Oregon.

THA Architecture, founded in 1983 by Thomas Hacker, is recognized for the design of public buildings including the Bend Public Library and urban spaces. The original presentation to ranch officials and homeowners also included spruced up greenery and landscaping. Estimates declared with the proposal call for a maximum assessment of $5,000 for each homeowner lot and $5.5 million in funds to be borrowed by the Black Butte Ranch Corporation.

With the 2012 face-lift given the Glaze Meadow golf course, these expanded offerings will bring an added level of luxury and convenience to the already successful Central Oregon resort and its impressive world-class services and lodge facilities.
