The Civil War invades the Metolius when the Blue and the Grey face off on May 17-18 as the Northwest Civil War Council holds a colorful military reenactment in Camp Sherman.

During the encampment exercises, expect the thunder of antique blackpowder muskets and cannon fire as the historic group educates and entertains visitors on the lifestyles of heroic civilians and soldiers of the 19th century.

The House on Metolius resort will serve as headquarters for this series of staged skirmishes and battles using an inspired cast of infantry, cavalry and artillery personnel. Admission includes medical demonstrations, music, food, dances and opportunities to inspect and handle vintage firearms of the era.

It’s a fun authentic experience for the entire family, with period correct details that will deepen anyone’s understanding of The War Between The States. Founded in the early ‘80s, the Northwest Civil War Council, a non-profit, living history organization, is over 1,000 members strong. It seeks to teach the public about the American Civil War and provide a competitive arena for other reenactment groups around the country at a full calendar of regional and national events, including this year’s 150th anniversary of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania.

Their exciting Camp Sherman Civil War jamboree charges into Central Oregon on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 from 9am-5pm. Cost for this first-year event is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors/ students and kids six and under are free.
