Hoedown for Hunger

The Seventh Annual Hoedown for Hunger at Bend’s Community Center, located at 1036 NE Fifth St. in Bend, will take place Saturday, December 1, 1-9pm. All proceeds will benefit the Feed the Hungry program, which prepares more than 2,000 meals each week for the homeless and hungry in Central Oregon.

The Hoedown for Hunger event will offer a full day of Americana, folk and bluegrass music by local bands who are volunteering their time. Bands include: Back from the Dead, Bare Roots, Bend’N Strings, Bitterbrush Band, Felly Smith, Quincy Street, Bobby Linsdstrom, Wile Rye, Bluestarz, Joe Stevens, Nancy Stevens, Prairie Rockets, Runway Ranch Band, Banjo Gallimaufrey, NTT, Uke U. Players, Greg and Glenn Topliff, Code 7 Stringband, The Pitchtones and Riley’s Range Benders.

Hoedown for Hunger will feature all-you-can-eat chili donated by individuals and area restaurants including Jake’s Diner. Desserts will be provided by Nancy P’s. Beer will provided by local breweries 10 Barrel, Crux, Phat Matts and Boneyard. The cost of all day admission is $20 per adult, $10 for seniors and children age 16 and under.

BCC is also looking for donations of outdoor survival gear for their Keep Them Warm program; people are encouraged to bring them to the Hoedown for Hunger, or drop items off at BCC during the week. Survival gear items include: propane cylinders, tents, tarps, bungee cords, camp stoves, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cookware, matches or anything camping related as well as warm clothing, including: long underwear, heavy socks, gloves, mittens, hats, wool pants and ski bibs.
