Bend Businesses Form Pop Up Picnics

Four Midtown Bend small businesses (Cosmic Depot, Parrallel 44 Presents, El Burrito and The Cake Lady ) are joining forces this summer to provide weekly free music in a garden setting called Pop Up Picnic. Starting July 15, every  Monday night from 5-7pm the  public is welcome to bring their picnic blankets and enjoy live music on The Green at The Cosmic Depot at 342 NE Clay in Bend. Canned food will be collected for Neighbor Impact at all the events.

Food and beverages will be available to purchase on The Green at The Cosmic Depot from El Burrito and The Cake Lady.

“We would like to put the happy in Monday! Why not extend the weekend, let someone else do the cooking and relax in a beautiful park-like setting, while enjoying some great free music,” says Christy Nickey, owner of The Cosmic Depot. “By pooling the strengths of our neighboring businesses, we will provide enjoyment for our community and benefit a local food bank all at the same time.”

The music of Tone Red Trio, Mark Ransom, Brent Alan, Hilst and Coffey and The Students of String Theory are some of the featured musicians in the picnic series.

The original Pop Up Picnics were called Diner en Blanc and held in Paris. Attended by thousands, these events now take place all over the world. All patrons invited were encouraged to wear white so they could see each other in the fading twilight, while enjoying their picnic meals together. Pop Up Picnic Bend style offers a twist on the original by adding some music, the opportunity to help members of the community in need and a request for people to wear bright colors to reflect positivity.
