This week, the mayors of all of the cities in Deschutes County announced their strong support for District Attorney candidate John Hummel. They said his focus on prosecution, prevention and professionalism make him the best candidate for the job.

Mayors Jim Clinton of Bend, George Endicott of Redmond, Ken Mulenex of La Pine and Brad Boyd of Sisters said Hummel will provide real solutions and justice in their communities.

“People in the La Pine area are concerned about effective prosecution of crimes such as domestic violence,” Ken Mulenex said. “John Hummel brings a degree of sincerity and integrity to the office that I believe is the right approach for vigorously prosecuting crime.”

Hummel’s commitment to creative and innovative crime prevention projects that tap community resources are a priority for Deschutes County mayors.

“We recognize that prevention work is what we need in Redmond,” George Endicott said. “Early youth intervention is one of John’s priorities—the bottom line is that we need intervention with kids at risk.”

Professional and fiscally responsible management of the district attorney’s office is a critical element of the mayor’s support. Brad Boyd of Sisters said he has been deeply concerned about the current district attorney spending taxpayer dollars on costly legal challenges.

“With John Hummel, we’ve got a proven track record of good judgment and administration. He understands that community safety comes first,” Boyd said.

Since announcing his candidacy in September, John Hummel has received endorsements from dozens of political and community leaders throughout the region and state. These include Oregon First Lady Cylvia Hayes, Sen. Chip Shields, Rep. Jennifer Williamson, Rep. Andy Olson, former Rep. Judy Stiegler and former Deschutes County District Attorney Mike Dugan.
